Circle of Excellence – Queenstown

Get off the beaten path!

The Dart River Safari is an eco-journey into the heart of New Zealand’s wilderness. During a back-road bus ride and a short walk through the ancient forests of Mt. Aspiring National Park, you’ll see many of the places where scenes from The Lord of the Rings trilogy were shot. Then, you’ll travel by jet boat into the wilderness to experience the pristine beauty of ice-capped mountains and glaciers, cascading waterfalls and crystal clear streams.

Go four wheeling!

The Skippers Canyon Four-Wheel Drive Excursion takes you through twisting, turning mountain roads that wind around hillsides and over cliffs high above the Shotover Gorge. A stop along Skippers River allows you to try your hand at panning for gold. Then, hang on tight as your vehicle crosses the spectacular Skippers suspension bridge built in 1900. Your destination is the gold mining town of Skippers where you’ll enjoy a brew of billy tea and spend time exploring the historic buildings, which were home to the families that settled here in years gone by.

Play a round of golf!

Millbrook Resort’s par 72 championship golf course is set amidst a spectacular alpine amphitheater. The course, designed by New Zealand’s renowned master golfer, Sir Bob Charles, features impeccably groomed fairways and greens, demanding hazards and meandering water courses all to give you an exciting golf experience.

Follow the Queenstown wine trail!

If you love wine, this tour is for you. The first commercial wine was produced here in 1987. Since then, the Queenstown region and several of its vineyards have become famous for premium wines, particularly Pinot Noir. You’ll follow the story of winemaking in the area, which includes the unique challenges of high altitudes, cold winters, hot, dry summers and a huge day-to-night temperature range. You’ll also sample some of the area’s finest wines.

Saddle up!

What better way to see the spectacular scenery than on horseback. The ride will take you through Doonholme Farm, an 800-acre working deer farm. Your trek across the tussock-covered hills of Moonlight Country provides amazing alpine views of the Remarkables mountain range and Wakaptpu Basin and Queenstown. You’ll witness the amazing sights of grazing elk and rare white fallow deer.
